This is an excellent resource for the backroads of Arizona and New Mexico. Beautiful photographs complement the precise directions to out of the way sights and scenic byways. This is a wonderful book for the armchair travelers as well as the real adventurer who enjoys getting off the Interstate highways. I look forward to future books by Mr Quinn.

This book should be the #1 tour guide book for residents of Arizona as well as anyone else. There's lots of places I would visit now after living in Arizona all my life (40 plus years). I hope there are more states done by Mr. Quinn.

I didn’t like how the book was organized into road trips.... once I read it, it was hard to remember where to return to something of particular interest.

Are you ready for a roadtrip? If you are in or passing through Arizona or New Mexico, grab a copy of Arizona and New Mexico: 25 Scenic Side Trips by Rick Quinn. Whether you have a few hours to get off the beaten path or have more time to explore, this guide will show you what these two states have to offer. If history appeals to you, several side trips will take you to ancient and contemporary Native American sites. Arizona, in particular, has diverse geology and geography, ranging from the lush Sonoran Desert to tall mountains, red rock formations, deep canyons, remnants of volcanic activity and more.As an experienced roadtripper, Quinn has gone beyond the usual in this travel guide, providing important information before you head out, such as when the road turns to dirt or when taking an RV is not advised. Alternate routes are then suggested, if possible. Sidebars give listings and contact information of the route’s highlights and some give additional background information.I have spent most of the past 15 years in Arizona and explored quite a bit of the state and a good part of New Mexico. Reading this has shown me how many more fascinating and beautiful places I have yet to see. I can't recommend this too highly. Now my only quandary—which roadtrip to do first!

I LOVE a good road trip. Actually, I love all road trips! The best are on roads I have never taken, to interesting and sometimes beautiful places. I appreciate receiving a copy of Rick Quinn's Road Trip America Arizona and New Mexico from Imbriflex Books and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. My sister and I went to Spring Training in Arizona, and I kept seeing signs for places that sounded interesting. I was familiar with places including Prescott, Jerome, and Sedona/Oak Creek Canyon, having visited there or at least passed through on previous trips...but looking though this book makes me want to return because there are so many places that sound (and look) awesome! I checked my own knowledge against the book for places I have been, just to check what he wrote against what I know. I did this for the AZ sites named above, and places in Northern New Mexico around Santa Fe and Taos -- and this book is TERRIFIC!In addition just basic travel info, there are phone numbers, web addresses, etc for parks and attractions, and tips for staying safe. It can be a bit unsettling to take off on side trips without having any clue where you are going (perhaps I have read a bit too much true crime?) but this book made me feel totally read to roll! As if all that isn't enough, there is a website where you can download maps. Well doneFive stars.

Who doesn't enjoy a well-planned road trip, full of scenic vistas, natural wonders, historical sites and roadside diners? Arizona and New Mexico offer all that and much more for the driver. So get off the interstate and explore an area in greater detail. The color photographs in this book should be reason enough to take this guide along on your next visit to either state, but don't rely on this guide alone. These are only the highlights!I live south of Sierra Vista, AZ, which is highlighted in #6, "Willcox to Benson." I'm 25 miles from Bisbee and Tombstone, eight miles to the Mexican border, and five miles from spectacular hiking trails in the Huachuca Mountains. I can attest that all the big tourist sites are mentioned, such as Ramsey Canyon Preserve, Kartchner Caverns, Coronado National Monument. But take these 25 side trips and make multiple day visits out of these. We have great birding sites, clear night skies for photographers, caves for the spelunker, sites for amateur archeologists, geologists and historians. You can easily spend a week in the great Sierra Vista area and still not see it all, so don't rush through. These road trips are mostly loop trails going east to west, and it's easy to orient oneself. Each road trip has a general map with the highlighted stops. Driving distance is given in both hours and miles, but do take into consideration construction zones, accidents, and wildfires that may require massive detours through our area. Not all our roads are paved, and there is not always cell phone coverage outside the towns. Be careful during our monsoon season, typically from mid June through mid September, when flash floods can quickly ravage through low-lying areas.I have lived in southern Arizona for 15 years and have seen most of the sites covered in this guide. (Central New Mexico is still calling me). I agree with the author that the sites mentioned are all worth seeing. You can spend a month in Arizona alone and still not see it all.I highly recommend getting Benchmark gazetteers for both states in case you have no GPS. A good map, plenty of water, and the discipline to stay off the backroads after dark to avoid hitting wildlife (and along the border, smugglers of all kinds) are all great suggestions for people driving through. Also check online review sites for hotels and restaurants to compliment this guide.Review Copy provided by NetGalley.
