Frustrating- I traveled from New Hampshire through Canada to Alaska by vehicle with two dogs. I had high hopes for this book but was very disappointed and gave up using it half way by Saskatchewan. What I discovered was that the book did not include many many lower budget Mom and Pop motels, hotels, and small cabin rentals that were all dog friendly. This becomes important when you drive into a city exhausted after a 16 hour driving day, arriving around midnight and call every single dog friendly hotel or motel listed in the book under that city to find they are booked solid. Weary and exhausted you then google the city name and dog friendly on your phone (thank goodness you can roam on Canadian cell towers) and you find another 5 to 10 smaller no name brand dog friendly lodging options - several with a few rooms left, thus google (and the app "bring Fido") help you find options that this book doesn't even list!! After this happened several times I just threw the book on the floor and gave up. Though I don't know why this book failed to list everything I wonder if they made loading options pay to be listed and smaller non franchise options couldn't or wouldn't pay??? Either way - in this book I was paying for an all inclusive solution summarizing all options so I had a travel resource that was actually useful. What I actually bought was have baked a not as thorough as google and Bring Fido. I wish I could get my money back - would not recommend this to anyone.
When I found this book I was excited to purchase it because this summer was the first time I ever traveled with a pet.The book put me in the right direction to finding hotels and motels that would allow dogs reside in their rooms.The prices and security deposits listed in the book were accurate and helpful. I would defintely recommend this book as a guide for travelers with pets. The southern states were much more pet friendly than many of the mideastern states.The Traveling With Your Pet book was well worth owning.
Used this book to find hotels to stay when traveling across the country with our dog. Was disappointed that some listings say "pets accepted" then when called hotel, they said does NOT accept pets. It would list how much a hotel charges for the pet, but then other times, no price indicated. ALWAYS CALL HOTEL AND ASK! It contained not just hotels but veterinarians' offices/emergency centers so if in need I could look up for a location asap.
I bought this book because I have always been a big fan of AAA travel guides, but in this case I wish I would have saved my money, you will do better with Bringfido.com or Dogfriendly.com. It still may be a good tool to use in the car when you are not getting good cell reception, but I cant see me using it at home when planing a trip. The dog park listing they have is very sparse, not sure how they gathered the information, but a google search for "dog parks in ....." or "dog parks near..." get better results. The listing of Emergency Animal Clinics was the only section I found helpful.
Very informative. This is a great book but do not buy it on your Kindle..You have to click on every page. I knew this book had great information so I bought it again in book form.. Excellent.. I repeat do not buy this through your kindle.. You will be sorry
Great Quality Book, that provides Location information. I bought it with books titled "50 States 5000 ideas" and "The Dog Lover's Guide to Travel by National Geographic" from Amazon in hopes that with the information from all three books my Dog and I will have some great vacations. I also invested in the PetSmart series of training that constitutes "Therapy Dog Training" so that my dog behaves very well when we are traveling/socializing. Moral of the story: This is a great book but one book cannot provide all the answers when it comes to traveling with your dog. Happy Trails to you and your dog (Man's/Woman's Best Friend).
My dog's picture is on the inside of this book, so my review may be a little biased. This book has a long list of dog friendly lodging and restaurants to make it easier to travel with your dog. It does leave out a few places that I know of locally, so I know it's not comprehensive, but it's definitely something that pet travelers should have handy!
I loved that I could call before I headed out every morning headin from NE to FL and know I had a destination to reach. La Quinta was nicebut I found some of the less expensive places more than adequate and preferred motels more as my dogs became afraid of elevators to the 3rd floor, I used the puppy park park when I got yo FL and we got to visit 5 of 10 in hthe area- with showers and all !!! My one sugesstion is maps of the areas so I know where I am heading in the book rather just relaying on my GPS which didnt get me to one pupy park I tried to take them 2. I would say be sure to clean-up after your pup at the hotels/motels because a few hadm't. Other than the map suggestiom it was a very helpful book that made the trip for the 3 of us better not wondering at 8-9pm if we could find a puppy friendly stay-over spot.
