this is a good guide book for the region, but there wasn't a lot on Malawi which was the country I was most interested in. I don't blame them, because Malawi isn't a huge tourist destination, but since that's why I got the book in the first place I still take issue with it.
The previous versions were much more detailed. Not up to date in a lot of areas.
stunning guideline for travel
I bought this guide for a trip I took late last year to and around Malawi. It seemed informative enough and was well-organized and well-written, but by covering three countries I feel that some depth was missing. In the end we took another guidebook and left this one at home, which I guess tells you something.
Lonely Planet and Bradt books know how to help travelers get to the culture/local spots of country along with the occassional touristy point of interest.
It 'a great start and then deepen my knowledge of individual nations with other books and especially with the help of the web.Miles
I purchased this for use on a trip to Zambia only. There was a bit too much information about Zimbabwe in the book, especially around Livingstone, which bearing in mind the cost of VISAs in and out of Zambia is disappointing as many people will not be in a position to travel over the border to Zim.
It has basically the same info as LP Southern Africa with a couple more hotels/restaurants recommendations. It would not invest my money on this.I recommend buying LP Southern Africa as it covers more countries and you just carry 1 book on your trip (if like me you like to take the guidebook)
