I liked the plot and setting of this book, and I thought it was neat that it was a fairy tale retelling without any fantasy elements. I thought the things that Prudence did to try to harm Rose were interesting and made for a clever retelling of the story. I also liked the characters. I do think the book could have used a little more polish, though. There were a couple of instances where "which" was used when it should have been "whom," and I was annoyed by the many times that instead of using the possessive (i.e. Rose's presence), the author employed the structure of "the ___ of ___" (i.e. the presence of Rose.) I don't know if it was supposed to sound more formal or something, but it just made for awkward sentence structure. I also don't understand why Rose's spinster aunt, the daughter of a baron, would ever be called "Mrs. Grant." She wasn't a "Mrs." and according to the Regency sources I've seen, as a baron's unmarried daughter, she would have been "The Honorable Prudence Grant" or "Miss Grant." (I'm by no means an expert in Regency titles, but I've never found anything in which an unmarried society woman would be called "Mrs." Those issues may not be huge, but I did find them jarring enough that it did decrease the amount I enjoyed the book, but I'll admit to being picky and acknowledge that other readers may not have any problem at all with the things that bugged me. And like I said, the plot and characters are really good and the fairy tale retelling is clever.
This book was a fun retelling and well written. I loved it!
The book grasps at your heart strings regularly. Wonderfully written.
There are some typos however they did not at all distract from the story. It was beautiful and it only took me half a day to read, I could not put it down.
Easy read that I couldn't put down. I enjoyed the fairy tale story retold as a regency romance. Can't wait for the rest of the series!
Can I just start by saying how excited I am for this new series? Woohoo. Regency Fairy tale retellings. Oh, yeah! Sign me up!!! I've had the chance to read several Regency books lately and one other fairy tale retelling and I loved them. I honestly can't tell you how excited I was that I got the chance to read this one which combined these two genres together! Hopefully you can tell that I was pretty excited about it. Hee Hee! What can I say? I wear my heart on my sleeve most of the time.So over the next several months we get a new fairy tale retelling set in the Regency era, and each book written by different authors. I've read books by most of the authors included in the collection and they're on my favorite authors list. This is my first book by this author. I've watched friends read and really enjoy her books so I was excited to dive into my first book by her. I really enjoyed it.Snow White was always one of those stories that intrigued me. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. Maybe it was the Disney animated movie that made me unsure. Maybe it was the stepmother. Maybe it was my young girl heart breaking that Snow White's mother had died. Maybe it was her voice in the movie. I loved my little record player toy that I had when I was younger. Does anyone remember the one that had books that worked with it. The books came with a little record that you would put on your big chunky plastic record player and could listen to the story. I loved the Snow White one the most. I can't say what it was about me liking the story that way versus being unsure about the movie. But like I said earlier, it was definitely one of those stories that intrigued me as a child because of the dueling feelings I had for it.This story definitely intrigued me. I picked it up and instantly adored the character of Rose. Yes to answer your question, the author follows the story outline of Snow White. So no surprises as to when the moments of peril will come, or her being rescued at certain points and such. But I really thought it was clever how the author took our Snow White character, Rose, and placed her into the Regency setting so flawlessly. Rose was all things sweet and hopeful, caring and compassionate, dreaming of love and finding it.Our ever wonderful prince was cast to the character of Colin. And he was a perfect prince...or gentleman. Depending on how you look at it. I really liked his character and his love of his family and caring for them. His interest in Rose and desire to become friends with her was a fun aspect of this story. I loved the sparks and chemistry between them. Nothing bursting in flames but a sweet and slow growing chemistry.Definitely a fun read for you Regency lovers and fairy tale lovers out there, I think you'll find this enjoyable as well. And don't forget to keep your eye out for the other books in this series coming out over the next couple months. I believe it's one book a month. Yay!Content: Clean. Sweet and clean romance with only a few kisses. Some moments of peril but nothing graphic.I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.Happy Reading!!!
This is a clean, clever regency era Snow White retelling that is worthy of a recommendation to any who love fairytales and proper romances.“I am sure you have ascertained your complexion light, your hair dark as night. And your lips—crimson.†ðŸ˜If that quote doesn’t sweep you off your feet and get you giddy for Snow White, then perhaps this other quote will gain your interest:Rose handed him an apple. “Tell me, Lord Stratfordshire, how do you know when the apple is ripe?†ðŸ˜I love a well done fairytale retelling. This is an easy read that leaves you happy and with a content smile on your face. I love the theme that runs through the book— choose joy. It’s a personal favorite of mine and I was delighted to see it throughout the book.
I loved this book. It was so sweet. Very interesting spin on the original Snow White story. I liked that the emphasis was on personality and kindness of spirit instead of on the physical beauty. There were some very swoon worthy lines, my favorite being: “I cannot imagine a more beautiful soul to spend forever with.â€
